VOSTOK — Now I am a Lake is a programme with Signe Frederiksen, Margaux Schwarz, Hagar Tenenbaum and Eleanor Ivory Weber curated by Pauline Hatzigeorgiou / SB34 for the Centre Wallonie- Bruxelles / Paris.

The theme was built around the idiom “VOSTOK”, the title Stéphanie Pécourt has given to her cycle dedicated to performative semantics in which are deployed carte-blanches signed by guest curators.
Buried beneath several kilometers of ice, Lake Vostok acts as an invitation that both fascinates us and refuses us. This sub-glacial lake on the edge of Antarctica, the largest identified, becomes the mirror-object of our desires and fears for the abyssal depths. The title, Now I am a Lake, is taken from Sylvia Plath's poem Mirror (1961).

Two performances — Civility by Margaux Schwarz and Riddle by Eleanor Ivory Weber — and two videos — Ni étrange ni étranger by Signe Frederiksen and Fun Fair by Hagar Tenenbaum compose the programme. In each work, the stage or screen is approached́ as a threshold where the architecture of the gaze, seeing and being seen∙e meet, questioning, even challenging, traditional modes of reception and attention. This programme is completed by a booklet designed by SolidÉditions.
